The Tale of a Vineyard: Agello

Fattoria del piccione Vigneto Agello

Home of the Fattoria del Piccione grapes, the Agello estate is our family business’ historic vineyard. Planted in 1989 at the behest of Vitaliano Pasini, founder of Fattoria del Piccione, it is located in the eponymous locality within the town of San Clemente (RN), an area rich in biodiversity in the hills overlooking the Adriatic Sea. Now 30 years old, the vines on this estate enjoy great balance and expressive wisdom matured over the years, which it is our duty to protect. The name Agello comes from the Latin “ager”, meaning “field”: the agricultural vocation of this place evidently dates back to Roman times.

The north-eastern location of the vineyard benefits from constant, yet never violent, winds that ensure healthy grapes, while the mostly silty matrix of the soil reveals the fluvial past of these lands. The Agello Vineyard enjoys its proximity to the Adriatic: the wines reveal the presence of the neighbouring sea through a pleasant saline note. Sangiovese, Grechetto Gentile, Bombino Bianco, Ancellotta, Cabernet Sauvignon and aromatic Malvasia are the varieties we grow here.
